Spencer Finch - 366, Emily Dickinson’s Miraculous Year (2009)

This work is based on Emily Dickinson in 1862, when she wrote 366 poems in 365 days. It is a real-time memorial to that year, which burns for exactly one year. The sculpture is comprised of 366 individual candles arranged in a linear sequence, each of which burns for 24 hours. The colour of each candle matches a colour mentioned in the corresponding poem. For the poems in which no colour is mentioned, the candles are made out of natural paraffin.

Hello darlings!

I’m back! I got so swamped with stuff I had NO time for anything! Well, that is all done with, and I’m getting back into the swing of things. I will post book reviews very soon, and I have a TON of books written down in my book binder that I need to read, so anticipate a lot of book reviews to come! I’ll start with those that I listed previously, and then go on to the ones in my binder.
I will also post links to book lists I find (I found a really good one I’m following!) and maybe some of you will join me in this book reading endeavor :)
*Edit: My laptop has been acting up and ALL my book blog information is on there. I am currently working off my iPad, and I’ll transfer all the info to here so it’s easier to work with.
BoB is returning. I’m excited!

Coming soon

I have read (and re-read) a few very good books lately. I am currently working on posts about them, and finding pictures of the covers.

Books I will be posting about:

 • The Forest of Hands and Teeth
 • The Dead-Tossed Waves
 • A Great and Terrible Beauty
 • Rebel Angels
 • The Sweet Far Thing

I won’t clog up your dashboards by posting them all today, but I will post them within the next week or two, depending on how my internet connection holds up. Please be patient with me :)

I will gladly take recommendations of books you love, because I would love to read them!

So, share?

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Fantasy (slight Gothic horror tones)
This book is about a boy who, after his grandfather is murdered by strange creatures, is presumed mad for what he saw. He begins to wonder if all the odd tales his grandfather told were real or not. He and his father take a trip to a mysterious island looking for answers, but he finds out more than he could possible imagine.
This was one of the best new books I have read in a long time. Intense mystery, horrifying creatures of the dark, strange happenings, and a touch of horror. The guy at Barnes and Noble who I bought the book from wasn’t kidding when he told me it was really creepy and I wasn’t going to be able to put it down. What intrigued me first about this book was the cover art. (And before you say it, I did not buy the book just because it was pretty. It’s what caught my eye. I picked it up and read the synopsis, and it sounded fantastic. I read a few pages next, and I was hooked. But I digress) The cool thing about the cover art (and all the photos in the book) is that they are photos the author found at garage sales and stuff. The photos are REAL (with minor alterations naturally). But he saw these photos and made an incredible story out of it. I do hope he writes another one, because this one was pretty great, especially for a first novel. Kudos to the excellent plot!
I give this one a 9 out of 10
Similar Books and authors: Honestly, I can’t think of a similar book! This one was so fantastic. But if you love books that are creepy and seem like they could actually happen, this book is for you!

celiacprincess asked: remember to read: Radiance (by Alyson Noel), and the two other books in the series, Shimmer, and Dreamland. and I'm sure there are others but right now I cannot remember. <3

YES. Those are on my list!

10PM
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood
Fantasy
In short, this book is about a trio of sisters who are witches in a time where that is horrible. Those charged with witchcraft are taken away and never seen again. Their mother died so the eldest sister is the one trying to keep her younger sisters from being seen, and perhaps taken away for being witches. There is a prophesy about three sisters who are witches, and they are feared to be those three. It’s a tale of witchcraft, treachery, romance, betrayal, love. My kind of book.
I absolutely LOVE this book. I couldn’t put it down. Well, I did a few times to go to the bathroom or to get more chocolate. But I don’t think that counts. The only thing I didn’t like was the very end, but it isn’t really the end because apparently this is book one of The Cahill Witch Chronicles. I will anxiously await the next book!
I give it an 8 out of 10
Similar books and authors: Libba Bray and her Gemma Doyle Trilogy come to mind first.

Hello there

Welcome to the Blog of Books. I like to call him BoB. He is good blog. He is going to keep track of the books I am reading and give you lovely people out there some information about them. Stuff you will see will be:

 • A lovely picture of the book
 • title/author/genre
 • a synopsis
 • what I think about it (writing style, plot form etc)
 • my rating
 • other books I would recommend for lovers of the book

Oh, before I forget, I will also randomly post amazing quotes that I love. I am partial to Lemony Snicket, so you will see a lot from him. He is quite marvelous.

Yes, yes, this will do for now. I am in the middle of a rather good book right now. When I need to get up and stretch again I will make a post about a book I finished a few days ago. It was WONDERFUL.

Until then, happy reading!
